Westcliff University’s Men’s Soccer Achieves Landmark Victory

Westcliff University’s men’s soccer team achieved a historic victory on Sunday, September 3, during their match against Division 1 University of California San Diego (UCSD). The team, boasting a flawless 3-0 preseason record, secured a remarkable win that not only solidified their undefeated streak but also marked the university’s first triumph over a D1 opponent in any sport. This decisive win underscores the university’s budding athletics program, with the men’s soccer team signaling their potential as an emerging force this season.

Heading into the game with an impressive momentum of 22 goals scored and only one conceded, the Warriors swiftly took control in the first half, establishing a 2-0 lead. Quentin Hornung and Vincenzo Centrella, supported by assists from Wissem Obeid and Di Lonardo, demonstrated their goal-scoring prowess. Despite a late goal from UCSD in the 82nd minute, Westcliff maintained their composure, ultimately clinching the game 2-1.

Following this groundbreaking victory, the Westcliff University Men’s Soccer team is now nationally ranked at #24 among 240+ NAIA colleges. Head Coach Randy Dodge, celebrating his first win against a DI school, emphasized the significance of the upcoming conference opener on Thursday, September 7, stating, “A win is a win. All that really matters is our conference opener this Thursday.”
